有鑑於建築設計的虛擬實境技術的發展,我們得以在構想被實踐之前,體驗到實際的情景。我們利用各式的表現法,來傳達將來這會長什麼樣子;我們擬定執行計畫,預估執行經費和時程。藉由設計來達成虛擬的執行成果,並加以評估效益。
空間品質的判斷,則多面向地與社會環境文化鑲嵌在一起。這便回到研究的初衷,我們希望研究的成果能指點江山。然而設計的成果往往未必就如人所願,淹水的房子可能沒人要、風車會造成低頻噪音、而摩扥車可以方便進出的市場造成兩層樓的可及性不均,但至少我們因此而更加了解設計的對象,或者說研究的對象。這有助於讓研究問題更深入,於是也就有了更進一步的設計方案。這樣反覆的過程看似薛西弗斯推巨石上山頂般的徒勞,但每一次,我們都因此而更加貼近真實。
The development of virtual-reality technology makes it possible to experience the result before the design is carried out. Besides, we are able to schedule the construction, budget and operation. The result can be evaluated in advance, especially the space quality.
The sense of space is embedded into culture and society. By means of design result, the research can go deeper to the consequence of the proposal. Sometimes The result can be undesirable. The house with water is not convincing enough for the client. The windmill can do more damage to the environment than producing energy. The accessibility of scooter is not as important as the floor separation. At least, we heard what the clients desire. The design result helps to refine the research while the research contributes to the design solution. The process of trial between design and research is similar to Sisyphis rolling the stone to the top again and again. However, we are closer to the top each time.
